Review of the day

I like to think that one of the (many) benefits of this service, is that it alerts you to future winners…
Back on November 14th when I tipped Vendor at Wetherby, I wrote:

‘Mark my words, Vendor will win a race this season – and he will win it pretty soon.’

Unfortunately Vendor could only finish second on that particular day – but he made up for it on no uncertain terms this afternoon.

He was available at 4/1 early – and 7/2 generally, when I issued the tip – but he was an incredibly strong 6/4 shot at the off.

And in truth, he made that price look generous, as he tanked through the race and won in a hack canter.
He’ll get raised a fair bit for the win – and life won’t be so easy from now on – but I think it was job very much done, so far as connections were concerned…

Alas, he was the only winning tip on the day – though Seventh Sky, in particular, ran honourably in defeat.

In truth, he never looked like reeling in Bennys Mist in the Grand Sefton – but he stayed on grittily to record a creditable second.

Earlier on the Aintree card, Soll had also run well in the Becher chase, to finish fourth.
That race was won by Highland Lodge – who only a clairvoyant of the highest order could have found – or Decky, as he is known to his friends

At Chepstow, Victors Serenade travelled well for half the race – but when push came to shove, started to go backwards.
You have to think that might be it for him (racing wise).

Whilst Godsmejudge didn’t do much better at Sandown, in a race won by the ‘solid’ option, Carole’s Destrier.
Maybe a little less speculation should have been the order of the day…

As for the ‘mentions’: then Don Poli and Many Clouds fought out a titanic finish at Aintree. Neither horse lost much in defeat.

Whist at Sandown, Special Tiara (plus me and Stuart) could consider himself a little unlucky not to pick up the Tingle Creek.
He was broadsided by Sire De Grugy jumping the last and couldn’t recover…
It was another good day for Gary Moore as Ar Mad made all to win the Henry VIII novice chase from Bristol De Mai,

At Wetherby, Clan Williams spoilt the Wetherby reunion in the handicap chase.
I had a feeling something might – and when I saw how well backed he’d been, I thought it would be him.
He was the first leg of the double for Sue Smith and Danny Cook (Vendor being the second).

Finally, at Chepstow, Moorlands Mist couldn’t quite get to grips with Dan Emmet and finished a close second.
That wasn’t really the result I was after, as Moorlands Mist will doubtless get a few pounds for the run – and a raised profile as well…
