Frederic ran well this afternoon – but not quite well
enough to be involved where it really mattered…
That
said, jumping the third last, I was optimistic that he would at least be
fighting out the finish.
He
had nosed into second at that point, looking set to challenge to leader, Teo
Vivo.
However, his effort then started to falter and it soon
became apparent that he wasn’t quite up to the job.
He’ll be dropped a few more pounds for todays run and
will doubtless get his head in front before the end of the season…
Arctic Court has been dropped plenty over the past couple
of seasons – and despite far from ideal underfoot conditions, he finally came
good this afternoon.
He
first came to my attention just over 2 years ago, when comfortably winning a
better quality handicap over todays course and distance.
He’s
had plenty of chances since then, but there has always been something not quite
right for him.
I suspect that was the case again today – but as I said this morning, these horses can only be dropped so far, before they become almost obliged to win.
I suspect that was the case again today – but as I said this morning, these horses can only be dropped so far, before they become almost obliged to win.
He
will get 6 or 7lbs for todays victory – but back on decent ground, I could see
him coming good again.
The
only other mention on the day, was Overtures at Fairyhouse.
There was a little bit of late money for him – but
nothing in comparison to the flood there must have been for Shannak.
You
don’t see many 5/4 shots in 16 runner handicaps – and whilst it was a bit of
struggle, he duly rewarded backers.
More
than that, the horse backed early this morning at big prices, See Double You,
managed to plug on for fourth place, to reward his EW supporters.
Don’t let anyone tell you that the market doesn’t know
what it’s doing in theses kind of races…
