Well, that was some finish
Having looked held approaching the last, Some Finish,
produced some finish – and won the finale as Leicester, going away…
I
have to admit, I was pretty hopeful he would.
Tipping him late, meant we had minimal impact on the
market, so seeing him sent off at just 7/2, suggested he really was well
fancied.
In
the race itself, he settled behind the early leader, Wayward Frolic.
And
whilst that one and Theflyingportrait seemed to have the race between them
approaching the last, Charlie Poste was clearly saving a bit on Some Finish –
and in the end, he won going away…
Obviously, with hindsight, I should have staked him more
aggressively – but in a class 5 race on desperate ground, I think it is prudent
to act cautiously…
In
the opener on the Leicester card, Gallic Warrior was backed into 8/11 at the off
– but ended up well and truly beaten.
However it wasn’t either of the horses that I fancied who
beat him – but instead the 13 year old, Pret a Tho.
As I
said this morning, you can get some strange results on bad ground…
The
final race of interest at Leicester was the handicap chase at 3:55.
With Vivaccio a NR, it really did look a 2 horse race – and sure enough, one of those horses, Stiletto, came home unchallenged.

My
preference for the race was Prideofthecastle, but he ended up well beaten and
may have been feeling the effects of his efforts a couple of weeks
ago.
Over
at Kelso, Unionist won the Ivan Straker memorial chase, in convincing
fashion.
I
was a little concerned that he might be found wanting for stamina in the closing
stages – but in truth, he just had too much class for his rivals.
I’ll
have to see what the handicapper does with his mark, but the win will probably
see him removed from the eye catchers list (as the object of the list, is to
find future winners).
Shades of Midnight was a good winner of the handicap
hurdle.
I
expected him to run well – but was a little concerned that he might find an
opponent too good.
However, that didn’t happen and he came home 26 lengths
clear – and at odds of 4/1…
Finally, at Fontwell, Cloudy Beach was indeed well
supported in the market (into 3/1 at the off) and came home a gutsy
winner.
All
in all, then, a good day for the mentions – and a good day for the tips
TVB.
